Get Writing 2010

Actually, Verulam Writers' Circle doesn't have sponsors...

And never has.

For more than 50 years we have been an entirely volunteer-run, not-for-profit association. Our style has evolved and adapted over the decades, but this simple truth hasn't.

All proceeds from Get Writing will be re-invested in the Circle for the benefit of writers in and around St Albans. None of us take payment, all of us give our time freely and without complaint.

The volunteers who brought you Get Writing 2010 were:

Ian Cundell:

VWC chairman, freelance journalist and provider of media and editorial services. Has been known to get a little grumpy.

John Spencer:

VWC treasurer, chairman of Get Writing 2010 and author of a prodigious number of books about the paranormal and supernatural. Not a big fan of January.

Nick Cook:

VWC president, Get Writing 2010 operations manager, professional journalist, mentor and creative writing tutor. Has occasionally been confused with Santa Claus.

Jenny Barden:

VWC conference co-ordinator and writer and artist. Sweater of blood for the cause. Probably needs a holiday.

Mark Clementson:

VWC publicity officer, writer, media buff and TV producer, would-be Luddite.

Steve Barley:

VWC press officer, editor of Veracity, parent, writer and househusband (not necessarily in that order).

Lesley Eames:

VWC deputy chair, GW10 competition organiser, fiction writer for women’s magazines and creative writing tutor. Over fifty stories sold. 'Nuff said.

Meena Wells:

GW10 competition organiser, writer and lawyer. Cooks a wicked chicken tikka.

Jes Guy:

GW10 initiator, scriptwriter and raconteur. Can tell you stories about the music business that would boggle your mind.

Sandra Norval

GW10 assistant operations manager. Quite likes bats. Let's not comment on that, eh?

Cheryl Alleyne:

GW10 assistant operations manager and supernatural mystery writer. Just don't call her a Kiwi.

Janet Baldey:

GW10 ‘set up’ manager and short story writer. Cracker-of-whip on late payers.

With guest of honour

Kate Allan

Romantic novelist, who is also literary agent Kate Nash, and originator of the idea of the Get Writing conferences for VWC. Founder of Leighton Buzzard Writers. New mum.
