Allan Prior
For a long time after the Second World War, televison was considered very much the junior partner to radio. Allan Prior, who was one of the early Vice Presidents of the VWC, did much to change that perception. He has written over 300 TV scripts, over 30 radio plays as well as a raft of novels, screenplays and a stage play.
He was one of the co-writers of a ground breaking gritty warts and all police series Z Cars which moved away from the cosy image of Dixon of Dock Green. It ran for 667 episodes from 1962 - 1978. He has also written an excellent primer on writing for TV drama called Script to Screen.
